PRINCIPALS NEWS - PIP WERE
Tēnā Koutou Katoa
Greeting to you all
School Roll: 160 Students
Tēnā koutou Kio Kio Primary School Community,
I am thrilled to write my first newsletter as the new Principal of Kio Kio Primary School. I am excited to join such a vibrant and welcoming community, and I look forward to working together to create a supportive and inspiring environment for all our students as they learn to “play the game of life.”
For those of you I haven’t met yet, my name is Pip Were. I live just north of Te Kuiti with my family. I bring four and a half years of experience as a Principal, and many more in school leadership and teaching. My interests have mainly been sporting-related, including multi-sports and adventure racing, but I now primarily support my three children with their sporting pursuits. I was drawn to become the Principal of Kio Kio School because I come from a farming background and love the rural nature of the school. I look forward to meeting you, so please feel free to pop in and say hi at any time.
As we begin this new school term, our students are preparing for several school-wide events, including our annual cross-country running event and speech competition. Please see the dates in our newsletter. Our classroom teachers are working tirelessly to create learning programmes to meet the needs of their learners, including daily literacy and mathematics.
This week, our teaching staff and Board of Trustees members, alongside all other schools in our local community, attended professional learning development workshops on cultural relationships for responsive teaching. We will be attending a series of sessions over the coming months to improve our practice. Like our students, we are continuing to learn and develop our kete of knowledge. “What you don’t know, you can’t change, so when you know better, you do better.”
It was lovely to attend my first whole-school assembly on Monday and listen to our super students who received their P.O.W.E.R. values awards, classroom awards, and completed P.O.W.E.R. reward charts. Keep up the great work and strive to be your best self!
Thank you to students, parents, and staff for your support and efforts in making my start at Kio Kio School very positive. Let’s make this year at Kio Kio Primary School one of growth, happiness, and accomplishment!
It has been extremely exciting watching the Olympics, especially the women’s rugby sevens bringing home GOLD! Enjoy the rest of your week.
Ngā mihi nui
