Celebrating Achievements and Wishing You a Happy Summer

Dear Kio Kio School Community,

As we approach the close of another remarkable year at Kio Kio School, it’s a time to reflect on the many achievements and successes that have defined this year for our close-knit, rural school community. It has been a year filled with growth, learning, and unwavering support from each and every one of you.

Student Achievements: Our students have once again demonstrated their dedication and talents, achieving impressive results in various areas:

Reading Excellence: We are proud to report that 84% of our students are performing at or above the expected curriculum level in Reading. This reflects the progress in reading and comprehension.
Writing Progress: In writing, 67.3% of our students are achieving at or above the expected curriculum level, showcasing their creativity and proficiency in written expression.
Mathematics Success: In mathematics, 80% of our students are performing at or above the expected curriculum level. Their problem-solving abilities and mastery of number knowledge and strategies are truly commendable.
Sports Achievement: Our sports teams have shown outstanding skill and sportsmanship, securing victories and representing our school with pride both on and off the field.
Creative Excellence: Our students’ artistic talents have flourished, with exceptional performances in music, drama, and visual arts. The school production of The Lorax was a highlight, demonstrating the creativity and dedication of our students.

Please note that Kio Kio School’s last day will be on the 18th of December. We will welcome students back on Monday 3rd February 2025. Enjoy this well-deserved time with your family, recharge, and create cherished memories.

We would like to express our deepest gratitude to our dedicated teachers, teacher aides, caretaker, office staff and supportive parents. Your collective commitment has made this year exceptional, fostering a nurturing environment for learning and growth.

A special thank you to Paul Fleming and Russell Thorpe, who are stepping down from their roles on the Board of Trustees. Your hard work and dedication have been instrumental in shaping the direction and success of our school.

Additionally, we would like to acknowledge the extraordinary efforts of our Supporters Committee. Your countless hours of planning and organising culminated in a hugely successful Gala, which raised over $20,000 and brought together over 1,000 people in support of our students. We are deeply grateful for all of your fundraising contributions throughout the year.

Kio Kio School Board Casual vacancy for a parent representative

Two casual vacancies have occurred on the school board for an elected parent representative.

The board has decided to fill the vacancy by selection.

If 10% or more of eligible voters on the school roll ask the board, within 28 days of this notice being published, to hold a by-election to fill the vacancy, then a by-election will be held.

Kio Kio School Prizegiving Year 0-8

Tuesday, 6 pm 17th December 2024

We are excited to announce that the Kio Kio School Prizegiving will take place on Tuesday, 17th December 2024 at the Kio Kio Hall, located on Ellis Road (please note the change of venue).

The evening will feature the presentation of trophies and certificates for academic, sporting, and classroom achievements, along with a whole-school waiata and a special Year 8 performance.

Students are encouraged to wear their “best” clothes for this special event.

Please ensure you are seated by 5:45 pm as the ceremony will begin promptly at 6:00 pm.

We look forward to celebrating the achievements of our students with you all!

The final day of school is Wednesday 18th of December.

Students will help to pack up and clean up their classrooms.

A FRIENDLY REMINDER
If you wish to have your children eating noodles for lunch at school, can you PLEASE send in a flask. The staff room is busy at lunch time and we are having more and more children lining up for staff to prepare their lunch when they should be having their break!!

SCHOOL SWIMMING POOL OPENING

Our school pool is now open to our school community. The keys, conditions and contract will be available from the school office.

The cost stays the same at $75 per key. Families will be able to use our pool after school and on the weekends for the next 4-5 months.

SUNSMART - HATS

All students have to wear a hat when playing outside. No Hat, No Play. Those students without a hat are asked to sit under the large tree on our Cobham Lawn. Please name your child/ren's hats.

NO DOGS ON SCHOOL GROUNDS
Just a reminder, please do not use the school grounds to exercise your dogs. Our students are finding dog poo on our bottom and top field. This is not cool!

LOST PROPERTY
Please check out the lost property on the racks for your child/ren's lost items. As the term end nears, we seem to have a great deal of clothing and footwear. It would be helpful if you named your child/ren's drink bottles, footwear and clothing so they can be returned to them. Whatever is left at the end of term will be washed and given to a charity shop in town.

STUDENTS ENTERING & LEAVING SCHOOL
Please make sure that your child/ren are dropped off and collected from the bus shelter each day.
We are enforcing safety rules at school pick-up and drop-off. Children are NOT to open our school gates. Parents are required to drop off inside the gate and come into the school grounds to collect their children. This is a safety measure. Our carpark is very busy at the end of the day and we need to do everything we can to keep everyone safe.

BUS BOOK REMINDER
Please ensure that the school office is informed early if your child won't be on the school bus in the afternoon. We also need to be contacted if your child/ren are getting off at another stop. You can do this by phoning the school office on 07 8731816 or emailing admin@kiokio.school.nz

STUDENT ABSENCES
If your child is going to be absent from school, please advise the office by phone (078731816), email (admin@kiokio.school.nz) or the absent tab on the Parent APP with the reason so the absence can be marked correctly for the Ministry of Education. If the school is not notified, the child is deemed TRUANT and marked accordingly. If your child is late to school, they must come to the office and sign in on the electronic register.
