School Roll: 149 students
Our weather has certainly changed with the trees dropping their leaves across our grounds and the cold snaps giving us a taste of what will come over the next few months. Students must come to school prepared by wearing warm clothes (please label) and appropriate footwear. I ask parents to be vigilant as winter illnesses have started, and please keep your child home if he or she is unwell.
Our school production practices are well underway, so keep an eye out for any help our staff running production require over the coming weeks. It is a massive undertaking with organising costumes, set design and prop making, and hiring stage lighting and sound systems.
We had a major incident last week at school with a student falling out of tree. This student was either standing on or swinging from a branch that collapsed, sending her to the ground approximately 5 metres below, resulting in serious injury. Most families have signed a tree climbing permission when their children start at our school and our students are regularly reminded of our rules. Especially, the rule where they do not climb on or swing on branches that are smaller than their thighs. Unfortunately, the branch that the student fell from was too thin to climb. This broken branch has been taken around the classrooms to remind the students of our rules.
Over the holidays the outside of our school library was painted by Farrell Green Painters. In the future, Kauri classroom will be the next room to be painted as part of our maintenance programme.
Our new school caretaker has started this week. Her name is Gaye Eyre, and she began by working in the gardens in front of the school office. We look forward to working with Gaye over the coming months.
