Greetings to you all
School Roll: 149 students
New Principal
It was great to have Kio Kio School's new principal, Pip Were who is starting here in Term 3, attend our latest Board meeting. This was an opportunity for Pip to familiarise herself with Board processes, view our finances, and ask questions relevant to her role.
Pip also spent some time here a few weeks ago meeting staff and students and reviewing processes and documents in preparation for next term. I am certain that Pip will transition smoothly into her role and be a real asset to our school.
There will be a formal welcome for Pip on the morning of the first day of Term 3, followed by a morning tea—further information about this event will be sent home before the end of this term.
Otorohanga Council Meeting
Recently our Board presented a submission to the Otorohanga District Council, applying for funds to resurface our school carpark. As part of The Council's Long Term Plan and Rural Concept Plan, money will be set aside each year for district projects. Our Board has set aside funds for our project and asked the Council if they could provide the extra costs to complete the resurfacing. We are now waiting for the Council to decide whether they can assist us.
The Board would like to thank Leanne Lawrence, our Minute Secretary and school parent who helped us with the submission process. Leanne is a consultant with an in-depth knowledge of resource consent compliance and enforcement and the processes in which councils operate.
School Production
Thank you to those families who have attended our School Production. It has been amazing to be part of the team helping out at each show and hearing the wonderful comments from attendees. Our students will gain so much from the experience of performing live on stage, and some may reach greater heights in the future.
Tree Climbing
At this stage, there is still a pause on tree climbing at school. We had an arborist check out our trees and he found nothing of concern safety-wise. A decision to begin climbing again will be determined at a later date once safety plans are in place.
However, we will be removing several trees growing under the power lines along the road frontage for safety reasons. The removal will be free of charge with our only cost, the road safety management.
Celebration Assembly
Our final school assembly for the term will be on Friday 5th July. Further notice to follow regarding the format for this assembly.
